The Legend of Henry Davy
Henry Davy was the meanest pirate in the sea. Legends say he sailed every league of the deep blue, and had a secret island that all of his loot was kept on. Davy was quite a scallywag, and every other pirate feared him. His crew was terrified of him, and his closest lads worshipped him at his feet. He had more booty in his coffer than what any pirate ever dreamed of having, until one day it disappeared. The legend has been told many ways. What I am about to tell you, matey, is the most true version any person has ever heard.
The story says that Henry Davy was born a pirate. His mother was a stowaway on a ship, acting like a man so that she could sail the seas. They say that when the other crewmen found out about her pregnancy, they whipped her with a cat o’ nine tails until she was nearly dead. She was forever bitter after that, and that is why Henry Davy was always so mean. When Davy was only 10 years old, he took over the ship that he sailed on. Most of the crewmen became sick with scurvy, leaving it easy to fight them all off. With a Yellow Jack flying in the sky, Henry sailed the seas alone for many years.
While Henry was alone he fixed up the ship, making it as deadly as possible. From the starboard, to the amidship, and even down in the bilge, he spent day and night working on it. After many years alone on the ship, eating only cackle fruit and salmagundi, he decided to start up a crew, and take over the entire sea.
Henry took his wherry and rowed to the shore. He docked it in the port of a small town, and headed straight for a local saloon. People say that when he walked in, the entire room grew silent, and began people shaking in fear. Davy picked up a nipperkin and slammed it back down on the table. The music in the place stopped and he had everyone's attention.
“Ahoy! Me name is Henry Davy, and I am a searchin’ for the meanest, most rough, tough, and courageous, pirates to ever sail the seas. Aye, the journeys will be hard, and you probably won’t last a week, but if ye do, ye will be a legend to all the other pirates, forever.”
They say his words could convince even the most stubborn of men to do something. By the time he left that bar, he had 12 new crewmembers, and a nice parrot to carry on his shoulder. He threw his jacob’s ladder back over the ship, and all of his new crew mates climbed on.
Henry Davy sailed the seas with his crew for years, taking over ships and collecting more booty than they ever dreamed of. Henry became the most feared pirate to ever roam the seas. He wrote in his log every day, and described everything he had seen in his life. He talked about the reefs in the ocean, and all the different creatures of the sea. One day, Henry woke up to find that all of his loot was missing.
“Arr! Grab ye six pounders and belaying pins mateys! It’s time to start fightin’!” Henry yelled out to his crew.
They spotted a small ship a few miles away from them. The crew began firing, but the ship didn’t sink. All of a sudden, a huge cannonball came flying through the air, and hit Davy’s ship right on the side. The freeboard became smaller, and Davy realized the ship was sinking. He jumped into his wherry, and started rowing towards the other ship.
The story has been told many ways. Some say that he was killed on the other ship, and his ghost haunts the seas forever. Others believe that he captured the ship, and decided to keep sailing the seas. It has also been told that he rowed the opposite way, and lived the rest of his life on land. The ending is a mystery. It is a legend, and you can decide the ending.
